Homework Assignments
Assigned Friday, Aug. 22
Assigned Friday, Aug. 29
Assigned Friday, Sept. 5
1. Meiss, p. 26, problem 10a. To avoid Greek letters, you can make the change of variables as we did in lecture: call the new variables (u,v,w) and the new time s, and let x=mu, y=nv, z=pw, t=qs. Find m, n, p, q that put your differential equation into the simplified form given in the table. Be sure to give formulas for the remaining parameters in terms of the original parameters.
Due Friday Sept. 12
Assigned Friday, Sept. 12 and Monday, Sept. 15
Assigned Friday, Sept. 19
Meiss, p. 68, problem 10 a, c, e, f (you will need the eigenvalues and, if they are real, the eigenvectors); p. 69, problem 15 a, b, c, d, g (you can leave your answers as a product of three matrices, and you don't need to calculate the inverse). Due Wednesday Sept. 24
