Material on Test 2
Test 2 is Wednesday Nov. 14. The review day is Monday Nov. 12. In the Schaeffer-Cain text, the test will cover what we have done in Chapters 3 and 4.
Things you should be able to do:
- Use our estimate for ||e^{At}||. HW6, problem 1.
- Show functions are or are not Lipschitz or locally Lipschitz: HW 6, problems 2, 4.
- Work with Gronwall's inequality (including the generalized version) and its proof: HW 6, problems 5, 7; HW 7, problem 1.
- Work with the proof of the Existence Theorem: HW 6, problem 6.
- Calculate the flow and its derivative: HW 7, problems 2, 3.
- Work with the definitions of manifold and tangent space: HW 7, problems 4 - 7.
- Show that a manifold is invariant: HW 7, problem 8.
- Construct trapping regions: HW 7, problems 9, 10.
