Test 1 is Thursday, September 10.
The test will be on Secs. 1.1--2.3.
Calculators may be used for arithmetic only.
Please bring a blue book for taking the test. If you do not, we will still grade your test, but we will not be responsible if part of it is lost.
Things you should be able to do:
Sec. 1.1. Add matrices, multiply matrices by a number, use matrices in problems like 12 and 13.
Sec. 1.2. Multiply matrices, use matrices in problems like 21, 23, 25.
Sec. 1.3. Solve systems of linear equations by using row operations to put the augmented matrix into row-reduced form. This includes recognizing when an augmented matrix is in row-reduced form, and interepreting an augmented matrix to yield the solutions.
Sec. 1.4. Find the inverse of a matrix when possible, solve a system of linear equations using the inverse.
Sec. 2.1. Graph the region that corresponds to a system of linear inequalities.
Sec. 2.2. Set up a linear programming problem: identify the variables, write an equation for what is to be maximized or minimized, write the constraints as a system of inequalities.
Sec. 2.3. Solve a linear programming problem by the procedure on p. 68.
